Common Issues encountered when installing memory cards:
– Please ensure that you have formatted the memory card in the device settings. This will often solve many issues. You will usually need to open “Storage Settings” in your devices main settings menu. There should then be an option to “Format” or “Mount” the SD card.
– If your device has internal storage then please select the memory card as the default storage type in the devices storage settings. Quite often the internal storage is selected by default. You will need to select the SD card as the default for the device to show the memory card as available storage.
– For Amazon Fire tablet users please format the memory card in the device settings before first use. You MUST be in the Admin or Parent’s profile to do this.
Device Type Specific Help–
Tablet PCs –
Installing a Memory Card:
Turn off the device before inserting the memory card to avoid any data loss.
Locate the memory card slot on your tablet. It is often found on the side or near the charging port. Please make sure that you locate the microSD card slot and not the sim card slot (they are a similar size and shape)
Insert the microSD card into the slot with the metal contacts facing down.
Power on the tablet. Your device should automatically recognize the memory card.
If prompted, choose the option to format the card or follow the on-screen instructions. You can also manually format the memory card in the devices storage settings.
Troubleshooting:
Card Not Detected: Make sure the card is inserted correctly and the right way around and try reinserting it. If the issue persists, try restarting the tablet.
Slow Performance: If apps are running slowly or you experience lag, the memory card might be too slow for your device. Consider upgrading to a higher-speed card (UHS-I or UHS-II). Most of our memory cards are high speed UHS-1 U3 cards so slow performance shouldn’t be an issue but if you are transferring large 4K video files it will still take some time to transfer the data.
Card Error Messages: Try reformatting the card using your tablet’s settings. You can also try formatting the memory card in your PC via a card reader. If reformatting doesn’t work, the card may be damaged.
Smartphones –
Installing a Memory Card:
Power off your phone to ensure safety when handling the memory card.
Find the microSD card tray. It is typically located on the side of the device and can be ejected using a SIM card tool or paperclip. Please note that microSD cards are a similar size and shape as micro Sim cards so please ensure that you locate the microSD card slot or tray.
Place the microSD card into the tray, ensuring the gold contacts are facing down.
Insert the tray back into the phone and power it on.
Your phone should automatically detect the new card and may prompt you to format it.
Troubleshooting:
Phone Doesn’t Detect Card: Check that the card is properly inserted. Try restarting the phone or reformatting the card (please note: reformatting will delete all data on the memory card). You can format the memory card in the devices Storage Settings which is usually a sub menu in the main device settings. Please also ensure to select the memory card as the default storage method if the phone has separate internal storage. This can also be done via the devices storage settings.
Card Not Working After Software Update: Software updates can sometimes affect memory card compatibility. Try formatting the card or check for further updates in your phone’s settings.
Action Cameras –
Installing a Memory Card:
Power off the camera to prevent damage.
Find the memory card slot, typically located on the side or bottom of the camera.
Insert the microSD card into the slot with the metal contacts facing down.
Power the camera on. It should automatically detect the card.
Some action cameras require the card to be formatted before use. Follow the on-screen prompts if this happens.
Troubleshooting:
Card Not Detected: Ensure the card is inserted correctly and then try to format it in the device settings.
Recording Issues: If the camera stops recording or shows errors, the memory card may not be fast enough. Use a UHS-I or UHS-II rated card for high-quality video. Most of our memory cards are UHS-1 U3 so they are rated for recording up to 4K so speed shouldn’t be an issue.
Corrupted Files: This could happen if the camera was turned off during recording. To prevent data loss, always ensure the camera is powered off properly before removing the memory card. You may need to do a full reformat if the card has corrupted files. Please note that this will delete all data.
Dash Cameras –
Installing a Memory Card:
Turn off the dash cam before inserting the memory card.
Locate the memory card slot, usually on the side or back of the camera.
Insert the microSD card with the metal contacts facing down.
Power on the dash cam, and it should automatically detect the card.
The dash cam may ask to format the card if it’s new. Confirm the prompt to proceed. On some dash cams you may need to manually format the memory card in the devices settings.
Troubleshooting:
Card Not Recognized: Check if the card is fully inserted and has clicked into place.
Recording Stopped: Dash cams may stop recording if the card is full. Many dash cams have loop recording enabled, which overwrites older footage. Ensure the card has enough free space or manually format it to clear old data.
Formatting Issues: If the dash cam displays a “formatting error,” try reformatting the card in either the device itself of separately in a pc. If the memory card is 32GB please format in FAT32 mode. If it’s 64GB or higher please format in ExFat mode.
Security Cameras –
Installing a Memory Card:
Power off the security camera before inserting the memory card.
Locate the microSD card slot, typically found on the back or bottom of the camera.
Insert the microSD card into the slot, ensuring the gold contacts are facing down.
Turn on the camera. The camera should automatically detect the card and may prompt you to format it.
After formatting, your camera will be ready to store footage. On some devices the formatting process can be completed on the phone app.
Troubleshooting:
Camera Not Detecting Card: Ensure the card is inserted properly and has clicked into place. If the card was previously used in another device, you may need to format it before it works in your security camera.
Recording Issues: If the camera stops recording, it might be due to a full card. Check for an option to enable loop recording, or manually format the card to clear old footage.
Poor Video Quality: If video quality degrades or recording stops unexpectedly, the memory card may not have a high enough write speed. Upgrade to a higher-speed card, such as UHS-I or UHS-II, for best performance. Most of our memory card are UHS-1 U3 which are rated for recording up to 4K so video quality shouldn’t be an issue.
